BFWE and SEDF jointly organized a day long event "Pathfinders 2008 - Women in SMEs" discussing "How do Bank asses Credit to Worthiness?". The event held on 15th March 2008 at Spectra Convention Centre,Gulshan, Dhaka. In the meeting Women Entrepreneurs urged Bank and non-banking financial institutions to provide collateral free long-term credit to SMEs run by Women Entrepreneurs. Ms. Rokia Afzal Rahamn, President of BFWE inaugurated the Event..EC members & Associations and individual members of BFWE participated. Deputy managing Director of AB Bank, Niaz Habib conducted a session on Credit Worthiness. EC members and representatives of associations members participated in the Event. .
BFWE and SEDF organized a day long training/workshop at Banchte Shekha, Jessor on 17th Jan 2008. The objective of the Workshop was to increase the management skill of local women entrepreneurs. The training for seed processing and storing was very useful for them. Ms. Rokia Afzal Rahamn, President of BFWE inaugurated the Workshop. Ms. Angela Gomez, founder & ED of Banchte Shekha and Ms. Nushin Subhan of SEDF also spoke at the workshop.
WISE, Women In Small Enterprises organized a Trade Fair on Dec 8, 9, & 10, 2007 at Dhanmondi. Women entrepreneurs from all over Bangladesh participated in the fair. They exhibit their best products in the stalls. A airlines ticket was offered as the first prize in the raffle draw on ending day of the Trade Fair. . Huge people especially women visited the trade fair.
A one day Inception Workshop on Skill & Entrepreneurship Development of Women in LES (Light Engineering Sector) project & Road Show held on 12th Sept 2007 at TMSS, Bogra. The program was organized by BFWE and TMSS with the with the assistance of SEDF. The participants achieved necessary skills about simple Book Keeping. Participants also visited Road Show and collect business related information.
A Memorandum of Understanding is signed on February 2007 between the “Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs (BFWE)” and the “International Finance Corporation -SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (IFC-SEDF)”. Mrs. Rokia Afzal Rahman, President, BFWE and Mr. Deepak P. Adhikary, Deputy General Manager and Head of IFC-SEDF, Bangladesh signed the MoU on behalf their organizations.
Introduction of IFC-SEDF:-- SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (IFC-SEDF), is a multi-donor funded facility managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, based at 57 Gulshan Avenue CWS-A-19, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh. IFC-SEDF supports the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well as individuals and institutions that serve the needs of SMEs and will enhance the broader enabling environment in which all of these stakeholders operate. The Facility implements its mandate through tailored, enterprise and organization-specific technical assistance, capacity building programs, training, research and policy interventions in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and North East India.
IFC-SEDF is pleased to enter into the MOU with BFWE which will be valid up to June 30th, 2008.
The objectives of the project will be:
To develop the capacity of BFWE as a service provider within the span of 5 projects. To develop the capacity of 3 BFWE members. To build capacity of 100 women entrepreneurs in the light engineering sector both in technical and business management skill. To scale up the businesses of existing women entrepreneurs from micro to small scale operation. To create a demonstration effect in the market to encourage potential women entrepreneurs in the LES. To equip 100 women workers with skills that will enhance their income and increase their productivity.
